Mass Shootings

And even more. I spent many years in the US, not sure I would like to be there
now, you just don't know what or when it might happen to you.

Gun deaths vary greatly on where in the US you are. The 9 most northeastern states of the US (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Delaware) account for 16 of the states with the lowest national average of firearms deaths. Nearly (only exception Alaska) all the highest firearms death rates in the US are the southern and western (excl those that border the Pacific) states.

Some rather significant news from America's largest retailer Walmart today. One of its stores was the site of the El Paso-Texas mass shooting last month. The chain, especially popular in the more rural pro gun areas of America, said it will stop selling handgun ammunition and "short-barrel rifle ammunition," such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber, that can also be used on assault-style weapons after selling all of its current inventory. Walmart will also stop selling handguns in Alaska, the only state where it still sells handguns. And Walmart will request that customers no longer openly carry guns into its 4,700 US stores, or its Sam's Club stores, in states that allow open carry.

Why don't they make a stand and start a revolution by stop selling all weapon related articles especially war weapons.
Walmart will soon no longer sell any handguns or assault style rifles in any of its 5000+ stores in the USA. It will also no longer sell bullets for these guns. It will only continue to sell hunting rifles and ammunition relating to them.

This is actually pretty big news as Walmart is by far the largest retailer in the US. It is estimated that it alone accounted for 20% of all bullet sales in the country. The chain was founded and is headquartered in the deep south state of Arkansas and is especially popular in the more rural parts of America where there is far more gun ownership and support for guns than elsewhere in the US. Their moves follow similar actions made a few years ago by the nation's largest sports retailer - Dick's Sporting Goods.

We don't understand hunting riles either here in the UK as the so called Hunting is mainly just killing animals for sport, not to control them or eat them.

Hunting is popular in many of the more rural areas of America. Even in a place as New England where it is much less practiced, it is still done to cull the population numbers of animals such as wild deer, turkey, and moose. Hunters do however use the animals for food.
